DIY INSTALLATION GUIDE

Measure.

Assess and Measure the Area

  • Determine the size and shape of the area where the artificial turf will be installed.
  • Measure the length and width of the area and calculate the total square meterage.
  • Use these measurements to order the appropriate amount of artificial turf and other materials needed.

Prepare.

Prepare the Ground

  • Clear the area of any debris, rocks, and existing grass or weeds.
  • Level the surface and ensure proper drainage.

Base.

Install the Base Material

  • Spread a 70-120MM layer of blue metal crushed rock.
  • Use a placer rake and lawn leveller to distribute the base material evenly. Level the area using a string line and screed if desired.
  • Lightly soak the base material with a hose until damp.
  • Use a plate compactor to compact the material.

Install.

Install the Artificial Turf

  • Roll out the artificial turf over the prepared base, ensuring that the grass blades are facing the desired direction.
  • Trim the edges of the turf to fit the area using a sharp utility knife.
  • If needed, use seaming tape or adhesive to connect multiple pieces of turf together. Ensure rolls are facing the same direction.

Secure.

Secure the Turf

  • Use 150mm landscape nails or U-shaped pins to secure the turf around the edges and at any seams.
  • Space the staples or nails approximately 200mm apart.
  • Spread the turf fibres open with thumb and finger and place the nail in between, carefully hammer the nail into the backing cloth and base, conceal the head of the nail with the turf fibres.

Infill.

Add Infill

  • Apply kiln dried sand as an infill material to help the turf fibers stand up and provide cushioning.
  • Use a ‘scotts’ drop spreader to distribute the infill evenly across the turf.
  • Use a broom or power broom to work the infill into the turf fibers.
